David Evans – a father in law’s view

The first time Syb and I met Dave was when he turned up outside our house to collect our daughter. A handsome man in a sports car with a big Old English sheepdog in the back. So Dave entered our life, and never left it. He married Debbie, and just became part of our family and we could not have wished for a better son in law. This quiet thoughtful man never offered criticism although he could look at you at times and you knew he did not always approve, but when you asked for advice it was given and you knew he had deep insight.
Dave was a ‘top of the range man’, and this was an example I learnt to follow. He never accepted second best, and anything he took on was thoroughly researched. He had an excellent mind and a very good memory. He was an academic, but also was very good practically and could turn his hand to anything he attempted, woodwork, sports, or music. He knew my interest in photography, but when he started being interested himself, he was giving me advice, and it was always correct. I think he took a delight in sending me photos of the moon, knowing full well mine just came out as a little bright light in a dark sky.
In latter years he was very helpful to Syb and me, installing radiators, tiling our new kitchen, and then finally coming over and decorating the kitchen and dining room. He never tired of coming over to visit us, and always included us in his family celebrations, so we never felt left out.
David was a real gentleman, a wonderful person who will be so very much missed by Syb and me, and our whole family.
